It was just as expected….
…chairs laid out, chai on the boil and a table set with lamba ganthia, sambharo, kachori, chutneys, chillies and jalebi. The London Parajiya Pattni Association held their Annual General Meeting where members had the opportunity to review what the existing committee had been up to and vote in the new one.
The story as it unfolded…
The President Kanti Pattni kicked off by thanking all members of the community for the support and backing he and his committee had received during his tenure. Perhaps, for many sat there, the magnitude of what Kanti Pattni and his team have achieved did not go unnoticed.
When the committee took over back in 2012, the Reserve Account stood at £24,810 with attendance and community interest on the decline. Today, the Reserve Account equalled a magnificent £63,000 – equating to an accumulated fund of £69,000. A huge achievement and deservedly so, these figures received a round of applause towards the commitment and hard work done by the committee and support given by the community.
Recognising the community’s evergreen passion to own a property, a suggested proposal had been put forward by the Trustee Mahendra Pattni, Treasurer Mansukh Bhagwanji Ram and President that due to the funds reaching a healthy level, it would be an opportune time to encourage the community of our progress by setting aside £50,000 of the £63,000 pot from the Reserve Account to be used to kickstart our goal towards a PPA property purchase. Debate followed and it was made clear that this proposal was merely a suggestion and goodwill gesture that would help the new incoming committee continue the community’s goal of purchasing a property.
It will now up to the new committee on whether they would like to leave the sum £50,000 as a property fund kickstarter or use the money elsewhere.
The President also made clear that the Annual Bhajans to commemorate those who have sadly left us had not been CANCELLED but merely postponed to accommodate a request received by a member of our community. The Bhajans were postponed as it was believed by the President that a clash would have affected the attendance. As done in previous years, the Bhajans were always planned to be held in the near future and knowing that the AGM had already been diarised, this would now be up to the new committee to organise them.
With these topics debated upon leading to the accounts for 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 all being accepted by attending community members, we moved swiftly on to the new Elections which were conducted by Trustee, Mahendra Pattni.
And here they are:
President – Sanjay Surendra Pattni
Vice President – Minesh Shantilal Pattni
Secretary – Hasmita Zaveri
Treasurer – Parag Harkishandas Soni
Additional 2 members
To be co-opted by the incoming President Sanjay Pattni later on
The afternoon ended with a welcome message from the new London PPA President before the Trustee gave a vote of thanks to the President Kanti Pattni & his outgoing team for all their hard work.
The committee over the last 2 years have done a great job in launching regular events, re-igniting interest, increasing attendance at events, building the fund and improving communication channels including ipattni.com and Facebook. On behalf of the community, I personally would like to thank them all one last time for the hard work and time they have given up to make this all happen as they hand over a much improved mantle to the new team. A proud moment for the community that shows the community has been put back on the right track
A new era begins (and Mr President is already taking to his role like a duck to water…)
I would like to congratulate them on their new appointment and wish them well for the next 2 years.
I’m sure as a community, you’ll be wanting to comment below on congratulating the new incoming committee on their upcoming adventure as well as leave your thanks below for the outgoing members who have wholeheartedly served you for over 2 years.
